Confessions of a Mompreneur (Ep. 8) - Judgement

In this week's Confessions of a Mompreneur, I'm going to do something a little different. I'm going to live journal about my feelings of judgement after reading a Facebook post the The Mother Nurture Network page about being blindsided by motherhood (see image of entire post below). Here is the intro to give some context:

"After years of meeting with new moms, it has dawned on me that we, as women, get completely blindsided by motherhood. Really early in life, we are spoon fed that the world is our oyster. That if we plan and work hard enough, we can do anything. We’re told that we can have careers, a fancy education, a partner, AND children. The generation of women before us created the path and made it possible for us to have it all. It wasn’t that long ago that, for the first time, women were admitted into places of higher education or that we were considered for executive level jobs. This vast variety of options for us was hyped and pitched and we, understandably, wanted it all. But, what is the reality? Is is realistic to have it all? Can moms juggle a phat career, maintain a home life, keep a marriage going, and be the parent that they desire to be? The women before us made it possible but they didn’t leave the manual. It is up to us to draw out the diagrams that chart a path for the next batch of moms."

As much as I wanted to write a comment on the Facebook post, I was scared of being judged or perceived as inconsiderate and I realized it would be a lose-lose. So instead of starting a mommy war, I decided to live journaling my response here. The 3 questions I was answering were:

  1. What was your vision of the future?

  2. What are your agreements?

  3. What is that you are feeling?
