Ep. 108 - The Multi-Dimensions of Wellness and the Upcoming Season of Mommy's on a Call
The next season of Mommy's on a Call is here with a new set of guests and experts all focused on the different dimensions of wellness and the intersection with motherhood.
In this episode I share about the slight change in direction of the podcast, what does multidimensional wellness mean and what big decision I just made in my life that will also add value to the podcast content... tune in to hear more!
“You can't connect the dots looking forward, you can only connect them looking backward. So you have to trust that the dots will somehow connect in your future. You have to trust in something -- your gut, destiny, life, karma, whatever.” - Steve Jobs
It’s been a little over 5 years since I took that photo… Jan 2017 to be exact. When I look at that woman - a first time mom of a 20 month old who was navigating working motherhood, never taking care of herself and who had never spent a second of her life meditating or doing anything spiritual - I always wonder, what would have happened if I didn’t take that leap to focus on me? What if I didn’t invest the money to nourish myself? What if I didn’t keep an open mind to be curious and try something completely outside my comfort zone?
Those small dots in the beginning have led me down a path that I am so grateful to be on and now everything is starting to connect.
Wellness (especially physical and spiritual) has always been something deep seeded within me.
My mom was a cardiac rehab nurse who would teach heart patients about good nutrition and she kept my family on a regimented healthy “diet” my entire life.
My dad loves reading books and watching shows on how to “live forever” - we are part Okinawan and they are the population that has some of the longest living humans.
My paternal grandma was a Japanese Buddhist priestess (fun fact: our house used to hold a Buddhist temple) and would always make me drink things like “green magma” and other supplements as a kid.
I have always had a curiosity for wellness, but never put it as a priority. I originally wanted to go to medical school, but that didn’t feel “right.” So I kept health as a side passion. I started a successful blog called Cupcakes to Crossfit back in 2010, which covered all things paleo and Whole30 (which was Whole6 at the time).
But none of this really hit me until I started down the path of motherhood. From early-stage cervical cancer to PCOS to fertility struggles to hormone imbalances to just last year suffering from ovarian tumors and an ovarian torsion - I didn’t see the signs from the Universe literally SCREAMING at me that I need to prioritize wellness.
The more guests I started to interview on Mommy’s on a Call the more I started to realize that multidimensional wellness is my calling. While I love some good business strategy, helping moms through wellness is my passion.
To strengthen my knowledge, I decided to go back to school (apparently I love education). I just started this week at the Institute for Integrative Nutrition which is my first step at obtaining my health and wellness coaching certification.
